I have always been interested in other cultures and languages, so much so that I wanted to be an anthropologist when I was in middle school (I wanted to be just like Dr. Brennan in Bones) and took anthropology, art history and cultural studies classes in college. My favorite class was Japanese Cultural Studies. Ever since, I have been obsessed with learning about Japan. I listen to their music, watch their movies/TV, research fashion and makeup trends and now I have started to learn their language.
Thanks to the app LingoDeer I have started to learn the basics of Japanese language. I have begun with the alphabet and introductions. LingoDeer is by far the best language app I have seen, they make learning like a game which is great for kids and adults. You hear what words sound like and see how it would look in both English and Japanese. You can also choose to have it listen to you say the words and phrases to make sure you are pronouncing them correctly. You have to complete and pass a lesson to unlock the next, more difficult one but you can always go back to previous ones. I chose Japanese but they also have Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Spanish, French, and German. Did I mention this app is free too?
I am so excited to continue this learning experience and hope to use what I learn on a trip to Japan in the future. If you want to learn a new language, you can download the app on iOS and Android. Go like LingoDeer on Facebook and follow them on Instagram.
Is there a country or culture that you love? Are you multilingual? Let me know in the comments!
