Being a functional adult and identifying as a punk is extremely difficult. On one hand I have to look professional and behave in a way that will make parents comfortable in my abilities to care for their children, but on the other hand I am the kind of person that wants to be able to walk down the street and have people go out of their way to avoid me because it makes me feel powerful to be able to part the seas of a crowd or terrify an old conservative couple.
Today’s Outfit of the Week embodies this struggle that I feel like a lot of us feel, that strategic split in personality.
At first glance you probably wouldn’t see this as being that meaningful, this basic black pencil skirt and wedge heels with a cutesy version of a misfits t-shirt, and it didn’t really have that meaning for me until I actually put it on. It doesn’t matter who you are or what culture, subculture, anything that you identify as because everyone has this disconnect between who they really are and who they pretend to be at some point in their lives.
